Securely save your customers' card information to their contact profiles to make future charges and transactions more efficient. Businesses find Card on File useful for quickly collecting payments from repeat customers.

Save a Card on File

Save a card to a contact

  1. Open Contacts and select the customer you’d like to save a card for
  2. Select Manage saved cards
  3. Select the location you would like to save the card to and enter the customer’s card details
  4. Check Save this card on file
  5. Select Save card

Save a card during a manual entry charge

  1. Start a card transaction
  2. In the section Select a charge type, select Manual Entry
  3. Enter the customer’s card details
  4. Check Save this card on file
  5. Select Start charge

*If you would like to turn off the option to save a card on file, navigate to Payments Settings and uncheck Collect cards on file.

Save when sending a Text-to-Pay request

  1. Start a Text-to-Pay request
  2. Select More options
  3. Toggle on Allow Customers to Save Card on File
  4. When paying their invoice, the customer will have the option to save their card on file

*If you would like this toggle to be turned on by default for all text-to-pay requests, navigate to Payments Settings and check Allow customers to save a card on file.

Charge a Card on File

  1. Start a card transaction
  2. In the section Select a charge type, select Saved Card
  3. Select Start charge

Replace/Update a Card on File

  1. Open Contacts and select the customer you’d like to save a card for
  2. Select Manage saved cards
  3. Select the location the card details were saved and enter the customer’s new card details
  4. After you have received consent from the cardholder, check the box Save and replace the current card on file
  5. Select Save card

Delete a Card on File

  1. Navigate to the contact you would like to delete their current card on file
  2. Select on the contact’s name to open their contact profile
  3. Select Manage saved cards
  4. Select the location the card details were saved 
  5. Under Current Card on File, select the Garbage Can icon to delete
  6. Select Delete

  3. Toggle on/off Collect card on file

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Is saving a card on file secure? Yes. Podium uses the latest banking security and encryption standards that keep your customers' sensitive information safe and secure. Once a card is saved, you’ll only be able to see the last four digits of the card number and the card brand.

Do I need consent from my customer to save their card on file? Yes. You must acquire consent from the cardholder to store their payment credentials and to charge them for future transactions.

What are my processing rates when charging a card on file? Charging a saved card on file will have the same transaction fees as Text-to-Pay. If the card was initially saved outside of a transaction (i.e. directly to a contact profile), the first charge will have the same transaction fees as manual entry. Can I capture a card on file via a card reader? No, not at this time.

Can I save more than one card on file per contact? No, you can only save one card on file per contact.
